Rules that make it come back right the first time.

Most re-sends are avoidable: the wrong person signed first, a section that did not apply was filled in anyway, the licence never got attached. Signclad puts those rules in the document instead of in a covering email.

Signing order

Turn it on and each recipient is invited only when the one before them has finished. Turn it off and everyone gets it at once. Recipients on the same step are invited together.

CC recipients
People who need the finished document but do not sign. They receive the completed PDF and the audit trail when the last signature lands, and never before.
Reassign
A recipient who is not the right person can pass the document to whoever is, with a reason. The handoff is recorded as an event; the original invitation stops working.
Reminders and expiry
Automatic reminders on a schedule you set, and an expiry date after which the links stop working and the document is marked expired rather than sitting open forever.
Passcodes
Put a passcode in front of a document and share it out of band, or have Signclad email it to the signer. Every gate check is recorded in the audit trail.

Conditional fields

Show a field only when it applies. "If Entity type is LLC, show the operating agreement block. If it is Individual, show the personal guarantee." The signer sees a short form instead of a long one full of "N/A".

Evaluated on the server
Rules are re-evaluated when the signer submits, not just in their browser. A hidden field is never required, its value is cleared, and the decision path is recorded with the submission.
Cycles are rejected
The rule set has to form a directed acyclic graph. A rule that depends on itself is refused when you save it, with the cycle named, rather than trapping a signer at runtime.
Composable across templates
When several templates make one document, each template's rules keep referring to their own fields. You choose whether to append rule sets or replace them.

Checkbox groups

A set of checkboxes with a minimum and a maximum: pick exactly one, pick at least two, pick any three of six. The signer cannot finish until the group is satisfied, and the rule is enforced again on the server at submit.

Why this matters on a disclosure. "Check all that apply, or check the box confirming none apply" is a real legal requirement in several of the documents Signclad's users send. Enforcing it in the signer view is the difference between a valid disclosure and a re-send.

Attachment requests

Ask the signer for a file as part of signing: a driver's licence, a voided check, a certificate of insurance, a W-9.

  • Required attachments block completion until they are uploaded, like any other required field.
  • Uploads are scanned and type-checked before they are accepted, and stored under the same encryption as the document.
  • Attachments travel in the completed download zip alongside the sealed PDF and the audit JSON.
  • Every upload is an event in the audit trail with its file name, size, and hash.

Setting these rules from the API? The field, rule, and recipient shapes are all in creating a document, down to the conditional rule syntax and the checkbox-group bounds.
