API access requires Light or above. This page covers the live documents your software sends. One document is one envelope, however many files, pages, or signers it carries.

The first 25 API documents each month are free on a paid plan with a card on file. Each rate applies only to documents within its tier; earlier documents keep their tier’s rate. For example, 500 documents cost $327 and 1,000 cost $627. Your subscription is separate. Negotiated rates may apply by agreement.
What counts, and what does not
- Counts
- A document created with an API key, an OAuth token, or MCP, at the moment it is sent. Each document generated by a bulk send.
- Does not count
- Drafts. Documents that end in an error before they are sent. Reminders, regenerated signing links, downloads, webhook deliveries, and API reads of any kind.
- On the Free plan
- Three documents a month from the web app. API access requires Light or above.
Questions
What is an API document?
A document created with an API key, an OAuth token, or through the MCP server. Documents you create in the Signclad app are not API documents and do not draw on this allowance.
When does a document count?
At the moment it moves to sent. Drafts never count. A document that fails before it is sent never counts, and a reservation taken for a send that then fails is released.
How many documents is a bulk send?
One per generated document. A bulk send that produces 200 documents counts 200.
Does one document mean one signature?
No. One document is one envelope: any number of files, any number of pages, any number of signers and CC recipients, at one price. Reminders, regenerated signing links, and the sealed PDF are all included.
How is it billed?
Usage is reported to Stripe throughout the month with idempotent record ids and reconciled nightly against our counters. API usage and additional sender fees are charged monthly in arrears, separately from the plan subscription.
